This reminds me of Sue Grafton's books. Rosie, who runs the bar/cafe down the street from Kinsey's place, is always serving peculiar Hungarian dishes with mysterious names. More like prescribing it, I guess, since the diner isn't given much say in the matter. Most of it doesn't sound very appetizing to me, but I didn't like my mother's version of goulash much (or any other, for that matter).
