My copy of this book arrived yesterday. About half way through, I
checked out the reviews and, as expected, either loved or hated with
little middle ground.
Certainly I am not in Bush's camp, so that makes me tend towards being
favourable. In the first chapters, I was reminded of a book by the
aviation thriller master, John Nance. His book concerned a president
who is wanted as a war criminal for past deeds and the plane he is on
has to land somewhere. This book is a call to any state or federal
prosecutor to add Bugliosi to his team and prosecute Bush once he
leaves office. So Bush may not be able to hit the plastic chicken
circuit without always looking over his shoulder.
Will it happen? Will the international community follow the thread
presented as well? Bush did not travel before taking office so not
travelling after should be just fine, save for the speaking fees.
Coming to me the day of Scott McClellan's new book and following the
past books by Clarke and O'Neill, it seved to confirm my low opinion
of Bush and his war in Iraq. But will it prompt any Attorney General
to move? Even a Democrat in the hinterland?
At least Harding had the decency to die before all the scandels came
out (the only monument to any Americv an president in Vancouver is a
large Harding Memorial - he visited Vancouver on his way home from
Alaska, the first US sitting president to step on Canadian soil.
After his death, some reporters claimed we had poisoned him!). One of
the service clubs erected it as Harding had been a memeber ande, at
the time, was still popular.
Bugliosi does raise some interesting points that bear examination.
Especially interesting is his examination of the revernece for Bush
post-9/11 contrasted with what Bush did, before and after. Stgill, I
doubt that any serving prosecutor will take the invitation seriously,
unless the ghost of Jim Garrison rises from the dead...
