Well, I didn't consume any, because I don't, but it could indeed
have affected the speakers.
In the USA for the 1980 Worldcon, I shared a train journey from Boston
to Washington with two American fans. They swore later that they
couldn't understand a word I said until we were ttwo thirds of the way
through the bottle of Duty-free whisky I brought with me. After that,
they understood every word... :)
Hm. Well, I didn't have that option (drinking alcohol makes me
sick), but I don't think any of the concerwsations in that pub
were of great importance.
