Sand Pebbles
Last night, one channel here broadcast "The Sand Pebbles" here. I had
always liked the film but with time had forgotten how good it really
was...
So, while watching, I surfed the net a bit to find out more.
The writer, Robert McKenna was actually from Idaho and served aboard
the River gunboats for 23 years. He was, like his hero, a mechanic.
"The Sand Pebbles" is his only major work of fiction; he did write
some science fiction, most of which was published after his death in
1964, one year after the book and movie. Along the lines of Harper
Lee.
There is a small memorial website at
http://www.mtnhomesd.org/Richard_McKenna/
and a large one for the movie at

A great booka dn wonderful movie...
