Dunno, I find all this longing for "the good old days" stuff rather
annoying. In many ways, truth be told, it wasn't always so good,

Yeah, me too. My mom used to sigh about the wonderful 50s, until we got
old enough to start asking her, "What about being gay in the 50s? or
Black? etc." and she finally admitted that what she missed was being a
middle-class WASP in the 50s.... A version of "It's good to be King" I
suppose.
Well, I remember the 50s, myself, and I'm still around, enjoying the
00s, so I can see both sides. We have lost a lot of innocence. Things
we did without a blink from our parents(sometimes aided and abetted by
them!) would be considered unthinkably dangerous nowadays. Small town
kids still have some of the same freedom, but even there people are
worrying about drugs and violence. As for cities--ouch!! We have
many more "toys" now than then, but they tend to be adding to a national
obesity epidemic. I really enjoy playing with all the internet has to
offer, but I still manage to get outside and hike with my dog, which
more people ought to do.
We thought life was pretty good back then, but only because we didn't
know how horrible it was for some people we didn't live next door to.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other 8-)
