OK, gotcha on that Catherine. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I'm encouraged now. I'll love it here if I can post on other topics
without any nasty repercussions. That is one thing I heard about
online groups that scares me and made me take so long to try it out.

Patty, I'm fairly new here, too. I love the fact that anything is fair game, and while odd ducks sometimes show up, there seems to be a natural flame retardant built in. It's certainly possible to stir up discussion here, but the general tone is immense tolerance and respect for different ways of looking at things. I don't know how it works, but if it were bottled I'd put it in the public water supply. I don't follow all the threads but I appreciate that people can chat about anything they want and there's no meltdown as a result.

I also have been on Dorothy-L - tend to skim there because the majority of book discussion seems to be by authors about their own books, or by members talking about other members' books, so it's all a bit incestuous - but am very involved in the Yahoo group 4_mystery_addicts (4MA for short) which has rules, but they are gently enforced. (Full disclosure: I'm one of the moderators there.) No politics or religion (unless it comes up in the course of discussing a book), no BSP, authors welcome but as readers, not writers, and off topic posters are encouraged to visit the pub (an affiliated group). Sounds draconian, but if you want to talk about mysteries, that's a good place to do it, with three organized book discussions a month and two regular opportunities to share what you've been reading every month. You might want to join up.

That said, I hope you stick around here, too. It's a good group of people.

Patty (and others) might want to take a look at mysterynet - http://www.mysterynet.com/ - it is moderated but not heavy handedly, they also have a social lounge where members can talk about anything they like. It's been around for a long time so it's obviously doing something right.
