Sorry, but I have to call you on that. After watching the staff at my
mom's hospice, no one gets to make dismissive comments about nursing
assistants without hearing from me. For one thing, I can see why we
don't want to pay nursing salaries to people who just come in and help
patients with going to the can or getting their covers straightened
out. But also - from my own experience in the hospital, and from
watching my mother's caretakers, these are hardworking, caring people
doing a difficult job who deserve some credit.

Okay, now carry on with the TV discussion.


Except hospital administrators make the claim (usually during contract
negociations) that aides can 'free up' nurse's time which is the backhanded
way they can hire fewer nurses and still cover the same # of beds. Its a
power struggle. That's what I meant.
