I, Mark, not Mique, will. But think it a very minor issue. Very, very
minor. One the Israelis could morally erase at any time with rather small
payments if there were anyone who would take the money. They did take land
at times from innocent Palestinians, even ones who were citizens of Israel,
without compensation. It happened. Often for good military reasons, but
sometimes because some hyper-orthodox cult had enough clout to go seize land
for another settlement. At times the Israeli government turned a blind eye
and I didn't like it at all. Still don't, in the rare cases it still
happens, unsanctioned by the Israeli government. Still minor compared to
all that continues to be done to them. The Palestinians displaced could
easily be compensated for the true monetary value of that land and buy
equivalent land elsewhere, if they wanted to and if any nation would take
them. But they don't want that. They want their grievances. They don't
really want back the five olive trees planted by their grandfather and the
well their great-grandfather dug, because the current Palestinians wouldn't
be able to find the right spot with GPS. I wish they'd stand up for
themselves and stop allowing themselves to be kept in symbolic poverty by
the rest of the Muslim world, but that's what they've voted for. They
deserve the mess they've made of Gaza under Hamas.
