Yes, perhaps "dated" is the wrong word, because it sounds like a criticism.
They evoke things and attitudes that have changed now - and as such are a
fascinating record. I must admit my brain always throws a spanner in the
works whenever there's a reference to "gay" in the old sense of "happpy" or
"carefree", until I realise, a few microseconds later, that he's not
referring to someone's sexuality!
