Mount TBR

I kept a list by my monitor as I read RAM's responses and I recorded guesses
from a low of 15 by John Purcell, and a high of 751(!) from Fran.
Good grief, Fran! I hope you weren't serious!
The books fall into four general categories - from the library; from various
review assignments, publishers who have my mailing address and what have
you; Bouchercon and other freebies; and books I've purchased or received as
gifts.
I have several piles in various places. One Bcon stash is in a living room
bookcase, one in a book bag in my office. One stack of paperbacks, mostly
from the paperback exchange, by the bed. The books tentatively for review
in one pile in the den, purchased books in two other shelves in the den; and
the library stash on a table in the living room. A few purchased books in
the living room beside the one Bcon stash.
My problem (or my blessing, depending on how you want to look at it) is the
library. About 9 years ago, I realized that if I was truly serious about
retiring, I was going to have to stop buying books. So I began to get newly
published titles which intrigued me from the library. The TBR situation
immediately got worse, much worse, because money was no longer part of the
equation. These books usually have to be read and returned in a three week
time period, and I sometimes have as many as 11 checked out at one time. So
other books wait for my attention.
In prior years I had a co worker at the stadium assigned to work where I am,
who was a college student. He brought his homework, I brought a book, and
after about the second inning, he worked and I read. He's still a coworker,
but not with me any longer (got a better gig with more $$) and my rotating
crew of co workers are all chatty Cathy's/Charlie's. Not too much reading
time, at least so far this year. Plus with the Rockies suddenly catching
fire and winning seven in a row, I've been glued to the TV monitor watching
the games! The game is easier to ignore when the team isn't doing well!
So, 108 books. If I read a book a week and no longer got anything from the
library, I'd be done in 2 years! aargh! There's no way I'm going to stop
patronizing the library, so - I better face it.
This is an addiction!
