NBC Universal and producer Dick Wolf struck a last-minute deal Sunday
to keep ''Law & Order'' and its two spinoffs on the air, although
''Law & Order: Criminal Intent'' episodes will first be seen on the
USA cable network.
Of the three, SVU is the most gripping from week to week. The original
fell into a very predictable formula early on but it was a damned good
formula. Jerry Orbach's departure from the show really hurt it, IMHO. His
portrayal of the worldweary and wisecracking Lenny Briscoe made the show
extremely watchable. A series of disposable DAs and ADAs didn't help
either.
I got hooked on C.I. because of Vincent D'Onofrio and his disturbed,
Holmes-like Det. Goran. The show became a pleasure to watch just to see
his act. Once Mr. Big came in, I lost interest.
I watched L&O for Jerry Orbach, the best actor the series ever had. I would have loved to see him in The Fantasticks.
But Vincent D'Onofrio is not one of my favorites. When he tilts his head and bends down to talk in someone's face it bugs me no end. I put him in the same category as David Caruso . . . someone who poses. I much prefer Chris Noth on that show.
