Yeah, that would be a bit freaky. Jim and I had talked about doing
that, ourselves, but had put it off for financial reasons. So far as I
know, Windjammer has ever replaced Fantome and I'm not sure they even
sail that route anymore.
My (extremely vague) memory is that the hurricane was headed in one
direction in the Caribbean and they were taking the ship away from it
when it made a turn and caught them--but I could be remembering this wrongly.
That's what I recall also. It was a very strange storm that almost died
out a couple of times, stalled over land, but picked up speed later,
changed direction several times, and behaved in ways it hadn't been
expected to.
Yes -- but though it was worse than most in terms of predictability,
I've never seen a really accurate hurricane tracking forecast. I
don't know if I'd bet my life on it.
Anne, tell us about your cruise. The book I read made the Fantome
(and all Windjammer ships) sound like the original party barge. Was
your captain the same guy who was lost with the ship?
