| This also seems to have to do with how different people's brains work. I
| was astonished to find out that not everyone sees pictures when they read.
| My father was surprised many years ago to realize that other people *do*
| see pictures when they read. He still enjoys reading and does a lot of
it.
| I've got a friend who does not see pictures and has bad astigmatism

| TV and movies are her thing. I would think if you get visualizations of

| pleasurable. But that's just a guess.

Hmmm, this is so interesting. I'm an extremely visual reader and assumed,
mistakenly I suppose, that other avid readers were as visual too. To some
extent this possibly explains why I really prefer fairly precise
descriptions of places, characters, etc. in my books, while others may find
that boring and too much excess language. In the past when we've discussed
this here, I believe there were few others who really went for detail in the
way that I seem to. So, perhaps it's because I do visualize so much when I
read that helps me paint these pictures in my mind..

For example, I just finished a couple in Elaine Flinn's Molly Doyle antique
series. There was enough detail in those books that I could probably draw a
pretty accurate map of parts of Carmel, California -- where I 've never
been, and sketch out the floorplan of Molly's shop and her upstairs apt!
Also, I know pretty much what each of her characters looks like. In every
favorite series I read, all recurring characters are always quite clear in
my mind. I feel that I know their habits, their faces, can anticipate their
reactions, etc. Yes, looks like I'm wired to visualize... and prefer books
that feed into this.. :)
