Maybe the fact that L&O's D'Onofrio is not 'preening' at every possible
opportunity, and does not exhibit the same self-important posturing as
Caruso, might be one difference. Oh, and, almost forgot, D'Onofrio can
act! ;-)

I never got into that L&O, but he was great in "The Whole Wide World" and
"Happy Accidents". Neither are perfect movies, but his participation makes them,
especially TWWW.
