I enjoyed Huston's "The Dead" quite a bit. Oddly, before seeing that, I
saw another adaptation of it: A Christmas episode of the TV show,
"Thirtysomething." And what surprised me was, it was good.

I thought thirtysomething was really a pretty good show, from what I
was able to see in reruns. I would get the DVD if they would ever come
out with it.
Generally, I enjoyed it. Sometimes it was a bit precious, but they often enough hit the target they seemed to be aiming for. For that particular ep, they had built up to it, as I recall, during the earlier part of the season. I remember watching the start of the episode and thinking, why is this familiar? When it hit me, I admired their audacity at tackling Joyce, and I was surprised that they managed to do it rather well.
