| And here was some story about an apple tree that haunted me for a while
but
| I can't remember what it's called. *Somewhere* in this house I have all
of
| Daphne du Maurier's books. Now I might have to start searching.

From what I can gather from the du Maurier website
http://www.dumaurier.org/, The Birds was included originally in a collection
published in 1952 called THE APPLE TREE, which included The Birds and The
Apple Tree short stories, plus six others. Then, just to confuse us, the
same stories were again published, this time by Penguin in 1963, under the
title THE BIRDS AND OTHER STORIES, but it included the same stories as in
the original. This was republished in 1977.

KISS ME AGAIN STRANGER was the title of yet another volume of the same eight
stories, this published not long after the first, in abt 1953. Confusing,
for sure, but it seems the same stories appeared under at least three
different titled collections... There could even be others.. or I might be
completely wrong. ;).

I'm in between books at the moment, and am looking for something different
(preferably with minimal gore and mayhem), so I might just run upstairs and
find some du Maurier. It's been quite awhile, but I've very fond memories of
her stories and novels.. especially Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel.. Re-read
time!

cheers,

Annie
