"An Offense Against the Persons", by Harriett Gilbert. This author is new
to me, although the book was published in 1974. The story so far is of a
single mother with a young daughter who meets a man on the street and with
no romantic or sexual entanglement goes to live with him in Kent. I have no
idea what is going to happen. No reason is given by the man as to why he
wants them to live with him, or what lies in store for the mother and child.
There are only odd thoughts revealed every so often about what a bonus it is
that she has a child. It reminds me of Ruth Rendell writing as Barbara
Vine. Has anyone else read this author?
Just finished Michael Gilbert's "Night of the Twelfth", which I thought was
an excellent police procedural. Will look for more of his and was sorry to
learn that he is no longer living.
