Levity aside, what do you do with a citizen who wants to overthrow the

who was fighting on the side of the Taliban? I can't remember the
outcome of that particular story. Did he go to jail?

As far as I know, he's still in Guantanamo. Without a trial.

If the person is a citizen of this country, what we do with them is
apply the law to the fullest extent...for crimes committed, including
treason. I'm not sure we still have a federal death penalty for treason,
but life without parole is certainly an option. Death penalties can
certainly be reinstated, but should only be imposed after the full
process of law has been

Heres' the thing. If we do ANYTHING outside the law and the
Constitution, we become them. They win, because we destroy ourselves, in
the name of defeating them.

This is why I am so opposed to any move (Patriot Act, etc), to restrict
our freedoms in the name of safety. Bowing to the need to detect the
few by restricting all is a cover for rampant abuse, and a capitulation
to fear.

We must, therefore, do all we can within the law...and beyond the law,
we must each, personally, not be afraid to speak up.

Doing nothing is not an option, alas. If we do nothing, we lose. So
what do we do, assuming we want to keep walking around with our faces
uncovered? I know I do; and forcible conversion to Islam has never
been on my list of things to do, either. The status of dhimmi is not
one I would relish, either - paying a yearly tax in order to be allowed
to live another year does not strike me as very pleasant.

So, assuming we want to avoid that outcome - what do we do?

Umm..did you read what I wrote? There was a list of things we need to
do.

Speak up, personally. Speak out, to your representatives in the gov't,
urging them to personal courage and adherence to the Constitution. Let
the cowardly media know that they will be losing whatever revenue our
eyes or ears might bring, as we don't support cowards.

Oh yeah. And VOTE. Early and often.

This struggle will be lost, if it is lost, by those who remain silent,
waiting for someone elso to fight it for them. Capitulation and
appeasement will only encourage bad behavior. Any parent knows that. We
need to be strict, NOW, about maintaining our freedoms in the face of
any cries of offense. Don't give an inch. Ever.

And I am ashamed of every American, person or institution, who has
cringed and backed away from this issue. They have given the opposition
hope, and encouragement. This weakness will come home to roost.

Like Jane, I'm a mother of a combat-age son. I hope that he will not
have to fight, but if he does, I hope he fights for freedom...not for
accommodation, appeasement, or any other less-than-noble reason.
