A week or so ago I finished "Dead Man's Island" by Carolyn G. Hart. The
entirety of the book (well, except the first 10 pages) was set on a small
island off the coast of South Carolina as a hurricane approaches. And the
hurricane did hit and I better not say any more about that. Anyway, I liked
the book and main character, Henry O., and the setting, and the story. I
have only read a couple of Hart's books, but in all of them I have had to
use my dictionary on more than a few occasions. That I like as well as
stories that include islands, boats, water, oceans and storms.
After that I started "The Dead of Winter" by Patricia Hall. Unfortunately
after the first page, I got interrupted and did not get back to it for quite
a few hours. Then after starting it again and getting through a few more
pages, I got interrupted again. The upshot was that over a period or 4-5
days I could not get into the book. Now it may be a fine story, but I did
not give it sustained reading because of other things to do. Last night I
picked it up (and that was after coming home from a movie), fingered quickly
through it, and read the last two chapters. I did not enjoy the book, and
it really was not the book's fault.
