You're kind of gullible, ain't ya mate? Seems to me that anyone with a
lick of intelligence would spot Rozhkov's explanation as pure garbage
right away.

For those interested in another explanation, dating back to the 1960s, I
refer you to the book "Widescreen Cinema and Stereophonic Sound",
published by Focal Press in the U.S. and printed by Pitman Press in the
U.K.

In it, author Michael Wysotsky, Deputy Chief Engineer at Mosfilm Studios,
states: "The main features of Kinopanorama may be summarized as follows:
the frequency used for filming and projecting is 25 frames per second
instead of the 26 used in the Cinerama system. This is a more convenient
arrangement, especially with cine cameras operating at an alternating
current frequency of 50 Hz."

Of course Wysotsky's explanation doesn't hold a lot of water either. The
mains frequency has no direct connection to the pulldown rate of a camera
or projector. The gearing of the equipment determines the fps that the
equipment operates at. So once again we see that old Soviet difficulty
with the truth popping up. Someone here said that they figured that 25
fps was as fast as the Russians could make their camera go and that seems
like a lot more logical reason for the very unusual frame rate.
