Are they hoping for good audio, or just something for reference? It
might be fixed in the audio board replacement, but I have heard
nothing but terrible things about the mic level, and phantom powered,
settings. Line level is ok if you keep it in the small window of happy
input levels. Mounting a mic, and all the gear to make it line level
seems like a mess. If the audio is important, this camera may not be
ready for that kind of use.
I actually would recommend mounting a mic on the camera, obviously
just for reference and the slight chance of catching that one sound
byte if you're doing a doc or reality-style shooting. You've got 4
XLRs, why not use one? The fan wasn't a problem for me for the first
30 minutes the camera was rolling...after that it's pretty annoying,
esp. during sit-downs. As with all RED shoots, good luck!
