Hey all,
I just launched my website atwww.jfasound.com
I am working now at posting up more videos of my work, both production

comments as to content/layout/etc I would supremely appreciate it!
Cheers,

Hi Jesse,
Nice-looking site on the whole! I have a few points though if they're
any help (I've done a lot of graphic design as well as audio work):
a) People generally like eye-contact, so as a prospective client, I'd
prefer to see a photo of you on the 'home' page where I can see your
eyes... The picture on your resume-page with the cat, for example, is
better in many ways: You can see your eyes, you're actually engaged in
doing what you do work-wise, & it's a very interesting picture because
of the cat & the way you're handling the situation... (Just
imho :-) )
b) The main font you've used (Century Gothic) looks fab', but it would
be nice if this was used for the 'Home/News/Equipment/..etc' links at
the top too... If not, then a least a nicer font than is there at the
moment...
c) On the links at the top, you might want to sort out your cell
spacing/padding (or use a table if you aren't already) so all the
words don't shift about when your mouse runs over one of them making
the word bold (& thus moving the other words about).
d) On the equipment list, I'd personally lose the phrase 'Accurate as
of September 2008', because it makes the page potentially look out of
date as soon as you reach October! Make your life-easy & don't become
an update-slave to your website. Everyone will assume the list IS up
to date... Lose the phrase, then just update the list as & when
required/feasible.
e) Regarding the photos page: I vaguely question anyone's use of
photos on their 'business' site that don't somehow show them on the
job, even if it's a beautiful shot. e.g. the 'Ominous clouds over a
southern NJ sand pit' photo is lovely, but where are you, & where is
the boom pole or the subject being recorded? :-) (I recognise this
is of course a very subjective view though.)
f) I thought the 'devastatingly handsome' & 'not afraid to wear pink'
comments were actually pretty amusing, so I'm not convinced you
actually need to drop them... Bill may have a point with some clients
though, in the same way he didn't perhaps find them amusing... You
just never know. (Incidentally, that photo is not your best shot
though.. Once again, the one of you on the resume page is much
better.)
g) Your image-sizes are fine; no need to resize. The speed problem
looks server related. You mention in one of your posts about iWeb. If
your website is on an Apple-provided service such as me.com (I notice
your Client login goes to your iDisk), then that is likely the
problem. (I'm a die-hard mac user, but the speed of their servers for
the mac.com / me.com products are pretty slow.) The loading speed
still seems acceptable though.
h) I'm looking at your site on my Powerbook, & didn'tt notice the
'Client login button' until accidentally scrolling down on the
homepage. If it's deliberate that this link is subtle, then fab' -
leave it where it is. Otherwise, I'd include it in the links at the
top of the page.
All the best,
Jason
.
