Not really. MOst of us radio comms volunteers, like most
folks in the film sound world provide our own gear. YEs
I've seen plenty of rip off artists over the years.
FUnny thing but some of the worst rip off artist stories
I've heard which involve the ARC are from ARC officials
playing scam artist, such as the lady in the 1993 flood in
Central Iowa using an ARC account to buy personal furniture
and other items for herself.
those of us in the production sound and other audio
production industries are asked to rpovide our equipment and
expertise. I find it the same with volunteer communicators.
You want my equipment, my skills, and I don't mind giving
them, but how much money I might owe on medical bills or
many other items of a personal nature are none of your
damned business. THat's why if you look me up in an amateur
callsign database you get a post office box. THat's one
reason we're doing a remote truck as well. WE come to you,
we leave when the job's done. Keep your nose trouble to
yourself mister ARC coordinator, or Mr. CLient.
WHat should matter to you is that my reputation for getting
the job done reliably speaks for itself.
Quite frankly I'll just say no to the ARC, and any other
client who wants such information.
Richard webb,
