Re: How important is it to be all DC powered on set?

Yep, different tools for different styles. I wouldn't do a job without my
Yamaha 01V96. Doesn't seem too fragile to me and 32 outputs are a real
deal-sealer. Oh and 32 inputs. And direct outs on all the channels. Oh and
96k AES straight to he DV824 on one cable. Oh and. . . .

We all have our way and none is right or wrong except for the ass-kicking
I'd get if I ever took something off another department's truck without
asking. I have found that it is okay to put things there. Like a case of
good beer. That's okay.

OK they have lots of AC cables on their truck but I don't usually had
the time to go there and get it... and in some critical moments this
was stressing.

That's a shame...we'd never go to their truck and take their cables
here. They wouldn't allow it! They usually just ask where I'm going
to set up and bring a line over. I do carry my own cable around with
me because sometimes it's faster to do it that way. It's one single
50' AC line, not a back breaker by any means. Hangs right on a hook
on the back of the cart -- very simple.

OK in that case.
I just won't shoot using a computer and/or an AC mixer, too bulky/big/
fragile for me to start with.
With just the recorder (Deva in my case but same for the 788T) you can
also organize the audio sends, etc.
But well, that is my minimum footprint/weight approach...

Each style of working has its own set of pros and cons. You should do
whatever makes you happy!
