Thanks Ron. Good to see you here.
I think that in addition to what Charlie says, I'd be very leery of having
only one ground for the whole three pairs. There might be a way to get one
set of shields from the mixer for the bulk of the return side (mixer to the
breakout and then unterminated at the multipin) but the extra ground through
to the camera that the Neutricon provides would be almost a necessity (IMHO)
if you had mic level sends to the camera and line level returns back. Not
to mention issues that you might have sending Time Code on the snake. More
shields are better!

Hi
I'm making a new cable to go to camera from my bag and thinking of
using a seven pin XLR rather then a Neutricon connector. My reason is
that they are cheeper and less likely to be damaged by a cameraman.
Has anyone else gone this way and if so what pin out did you use on
the XLR.
Adam
Lots of people use the 7pin for camera cables. I'm sure someone will chime
in with proper wiring scheme. Curious though, how in the heck can a camera
person damage a Neutricon? You can practically drive a car over one and in
all respects it seems to be a more robust connector than a 7pin XLR and it
will release if pulled hard enough without damaging the cable if it's
properly strain relieved.
Pin 1 = ground
Pin 2 = left out audio high
Pin 3 = left out audio low
Pin 4 = right out audio high
Pin 5 = right out audio low
Pin 6 = left tape return
Pin 7 = right tape return
