Considering buying a new package what would you get per day for the
following package?

Sound Devices 442
4 411 wireless
1 plug on tx
Zaxcom Eng Hop
Sanken cs3e and boompole

1 comtek tx and 2 comtek rx

4 Countryman emw lavs?

Thanks
For that kind of sound package you should charge the least $800/day...

Heck Sergio I don't think a big feature mixer get's $800 a day for a
full
film package. No client in the ENG, EFP, Corporate world is going to
hire a
mixer with a package for those kinds of rates. Nice dream, but not
reality.

I'm just charging between 450 and 1250 per 10 hours... equipment
included. The Net jobs, I get to use the photographer's gear so...
it's the "Labor" rate of aprox 400 for 8... if I'm to genlock
(trilevel or whatever)two or more cameras... or just show them all a
slate... it's going to cost$. All the old "standards" are out the
window... every man for hisself!!! bee good, charge what you want....
@200 per day... WTF sinking the ship for everyone... that is the the
"Anchor" in all the crap heard here from supposedly experienced ops..
JeEEZus... I ' know veggies are cheaper... but how long can you live
with your parents ???

What's with all the anger? We are not talking commercials or high end jobs
here...we are talking about running around with a bag and a couple of
wireless. You just are not going to find clients in my neck of the woods
that are going to pay big bucks for gear. You can find a well equipped sound
mixer with decent experience for between $450 and $700 inclusive ANYWHERE in
the USA. I'm not dragging anything down...I'm on the high end for Seattle.
When I talk with producers coming to town they aren't paying anyone anywhere
much more. Who is paying you a thousand bucks for a bag job?

Charlie... If I mis-percieved that you were working for 200 a day
inclusive, I apologize.

Some twits here in NOLA will do whatever is being offered for
whatever is being offered, and YES... it does get in my craw that so
many are so hungry that they will sacrifice their own soul to get a
piece of this crud...    550 does seem to be the ssorta "Bag" rate....
I get 750+ expenses for a HD recorder 3 wires boom, slate and four
comteks.... more, costs more.

18 hours on location with a protools rig,  Yamaha O1v96, SD744t
Time code to three trilevel genlocked cameras etc etc etc...  NFL/
espn ? films intro for the saints 06 season...   MRB prods...   over 2k
$.      IA478 boom ops working for 17-19 an hour... The NABET deal is
pure BS...  only IBEW is giving a fair shake... prevailing wage is out
the window... bid high and provide quality... if they don't think
enough of their own production to compensate you fairly... how do you
think you will be treated on the shoot?

Frankly, things are so non-standardized these days, I never really
know until the post mortem what BS is going to get dropped in my
lap.   I've learned to be disgusted with the folks who run television,
subsequently, I have branched into other avenues in media.  If I could
afford it, the sound gig would be strictly for clients who
"understand" from more than the bottom line.

Whitney... if you bring that rig once, and don't charge for it... you
have set a standard for yourself.  Sure you will get the call again if
you do a good job and don't piss off the editors and they remember you
amongst the hundreds of techs they meet...   be assured, they will
expect that level of gear and performance everytime regardless.  When
you get a little older, have a kid in college, house note... etc.
This can become a rough road, if you are young, dumb, and full of....
it probably doesn't matter.  Time will tell...

Sorry Again...  this whole issue has been pissing me off since Billy
(paid by special interests) Tauzin C0- Authored the telcomm act of 96.
and sent the media to the trough of greedy pigs...

This is "Jeff C" in New Orleans... my prev post (soundmixer77id) was
from another account...

Wow I wasn't trying to start any problems. I currently have a 302
mixer a 3 lectrosonics wireless. I was just trying to see what people
were asking for the 4 channel package thanks everyone

Hi Whitney,

You should know the firestorm of controversy started by any "how much"
question... no problem, just letting off steam. Charlie knows, I am
not big on the 744 as a transcription machine for 75 or
whatever.... I reacted without thinking, My bad....

Roughly, I figure that package at about 22,000....probably closer to
25 initial cost, insurance ??? maint ? oh by the ways? . We all know
that getting even 1% of value for a rental from production can be a
hump... I would think an investment in a Long Term Treasury bond
more profitable...

I need a 302 since my 442 rarely uses more than three channels at a
time... I'm trying to lose weight. If you sell yours, or want to
work out a swap deal. I'll meet you in GA. for a test drive... my
old PSCM4 is still chugging along perfectly.... if I need more inputs
or outs, I just throw the wendt X2 in the bag... I just sold one of
my 400 systems on 22... my old 190's seem to be working fine... the
400s come out for clients who appreciate non companded audio and don't
start a job interview by negotiating my rate downward.... The pack
you re using now will fill the bill on 99.99% of eng these days....
when you get into that 4 wirelii, stereo hop stuff... the hours get
longer, and the rates go down.... Yes, I've done "Extreme Fakeover"
and crap like "Elimi-date" and other asstd re-all idiot TV, running
around with a 38lb pack for 14 hours rolling on everything.... never
again. To each, his, her own...

All best'

Jeff C
