Re: mishandled luggage

Last December I flew to México City for a 4 day shoot, checked all my
gear in with no problem at all. Next month am doing it again for a 6
day shoot...
NO carry on, Travel light!!

Since the first of the year, I've flown to gigs four times (Milwaukee/
Madison, Denver, Dallas, Chicago). I travel with a 1650 Pelican and a
Rock'n'Roller cart as my two checked bags, and carry on my rolling
suitcase and shoulder bag. After traveling with it for more years than
I care to admit, Midwest mangled the handle of my cart somewhere
between Kansas City and Madison. Returning from Denver, somehow all of
our production gear (except for the camera, which was carried on)
didn't get put on the airplane (Frontier)...yes, I checked in in
plenty of time. Had to wait for the next flight to see if my stuff was
actually on it or not. Crew on the ground in Denver said that there
was a bunch of stuff that they didn't send on the first flight, but
couldn't confirm which bags they were sending on the second flight.
Still, by far the most crew-friendly airline that I have dealt with is
Southwest. On the Denver trip, we flew out on Southwest, returned on
Frontier. Southwest charged $30 for an extra bag. For the exact same
kit, Frontier hit us for $200 more.

Another pet peeve...I put those TSA-approved combination locks on my
Pelican. Just there to slow down the amateurs, I know. But the locks
keep disappearing off my case, or they come back to me broken or
reprogrammed with a new combination. Been through a few of those
already. Maybe I should take the hint and stop using them. Either that
or go with the idea that was advanced on a thread some time ago about
declaring a firearm in each case. That was supposed to tighten up
attention to detail in the security section... Wonder if it would
really work, or just stir up a bigger sh!tstorm.
