The laptop is faster for burning (you can use a 16X DVD-R) but
requires more setup time and attention. Burning directly to the
XLDVDRAM is much slower in terms of burn speed, but is much simpler to
set up. If you have a lot of gear to wrap to a truck anyway, probably
the most sensible thing is to set up the XLDVDRAM quickly and let it
go while you wrap the rest of your gear. If you don't have much to
wrap, then the laptop scenario will be faster.

Hello to all 744T/XL DVD users..
I will be starting a 3 day commercial this week and I will rolling on
my 744T.
It is going to be very quick run and gun ENG style shooting on 35mm.
FILM not Video!!!
Production has requested DVD's at the end of each day.
Obviously I will not be able to burn as we shoot, so I will have to
dump my audio files from the 744T to DVD during wrap.
And depending on the amount of audio recorded this could take a long
time.
Here is my question:
Is it faster to plug in the XL DVD straight into the 744T and burn DVD
RAM disks (5x speed)
or
faster to plug the 744T into my laptop, dump the files onto my HD, and
then burn to a faster DVD-R?
Obviously if I have time I will do periodic "dumps" from the 744T onto
a DVD, but it became apparent during the tech scout (yes I was
invited!) that we will be running all over the city and shooting non
stop.
So. Burn from 744T or dump to computer and burn from there?
Thanks for all your responses.
