Gold is the shield, and I believe that red is, in fact, Left which is tip.
Go to Radio Shack and buy a small set of clip-leads, tin the wires (you'll
have to do that anyway) and clip-up your connection. It will save you the
test soldering and you can consider them you first piece of bench test
equipment.

Hey All,

I know i saw it a while back, but couldnt find it in the archives:

Does anyone know the color coding on the wiring that comes in the
coiled cable in the MDR-7506 Headphones?

My best Guess is Gold-Tip, Red-Right, Green-Sleeve, but does anyone
have a decisive answer, before i waste a couple connectors on trial-
and-error.
