I'll take half days when I've got nothing else going on, especially for
regular clients. When I accept a half day it's at 60% of my day rate and
it's 5 hours portal to portal. There is no half day on the equipment rental.
If I have a hard out, I let them know that in advance, and if I don't have a
hard out time I charge overtime at 1.5x my half day hourly rate (which is
already higher than my full day hourly rate). This way I don't have to be
the *** who charged them a full day for going 30 extra minutes yet I get
fairly compensated without having to give them the extra time to be a nice
guy. I also always reserve the right with my clients to replace myself on a
half day if a full day or multiple days arise.

In all honesty....I enjoy having a life and some time to myself and I don't
mind half days all that much. If I could book 4 four half days a week for
the rest of my career I think I'd be happy.

portal to portal.
What's true defenition of "Portal to Portal

Well with all of the big city traffic issues that no one can control, I usually figure about half and hour on each side...so they get me for 4 hours on location though most of my half days that I take are usually just a quickie single interview or on camera pop that take far less time. Win - Win for me and my client most of the time.
