I didn't know the HD-P2 ran on Windows CE, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Most hand-held or car mounted GPS units and many smart phones operate on
CE behind the scenes. And the new Tascam X48 runs on embedded Windows XP.
It is an easy (and mature) platform to develop for since there are years of
third party development tools available.

What does this update do? I would be great if it "menued" the
selection of power source. Currently, it decides which to draw from
by virtue of which is higher supply source. Sooooooooo, if you have
fresh batteries in, they will be used over the wallwart source!!!!

This has never been a problem for me--my P2 always takes the external
power source even down in to very low vottages (like
below what you'd want to take an NP1 type battery to. I left one on
the machine all day once by mistake, it ran the NP1 down to below 10
vdc and never looked at the internal batteries. I see this as good in
some ways and bad in others......
