The kit I use occassionally has Remote Audio 9 pin (I think) duplex boom
cable with break aways at each end. The break-aways at each end have two
xlrs and the trs stereo headphone return. This cable, when not being used
as a camera snake, works as boom cable extension.
200' of boom cable and if I really don't feel like moving the cart for those
video projects I don't gotta. :-)

I have two 25' and one 50' lengths of M-F beta snake, plus I have a
Hirose/6 pin adapter for my mixer and an XLR/6 pin adapter to the
camera. That way Camera can easily disconnect at the end of a set-up,
and I can easily disconnect my end if I want to walk away for a minute-
without disturbing any of the main Hirose or XLR patches.
Originally The connection to my mixer was a 25' length of Beta Snake
with the Hirose multi-pin, meaning I had to reel all of that in if I
needed to step away from the camera for any reason. I had my cable
dealer make that special for me and it was completely worth it.
Additionally, I can add more Beta Snake anywhere in the chain if I
need more length.
