Replying to myself,
I know I could just get some TA3F to TA5F cables with attenuation
built in, but that doesn't solve the problem of having too little Mic
level input available to the transmitters. It only works as a fix if I
select LIne level as the TA3F output level. I consulted with the
maker of my cables, a major pro location sound reseller and
manufacturer, and they indicated that my cables are built exactly as
all of the other cables, per Sound Devices' specs, that they sell for
this application. They were puzzled as well.

I can't give you the values or pin configuration, but Doug Tourtelot made my TA3 - TA5 cables and we experimented until the line level outputs on the 442 feed my Lectrosonics transmitters and my gain with 0DB tone at about 9AM on the pot when the -20 light just barely glows. This allows me to maximize the gain structure of the Lectrosonics transmitter and dramatically reduce the noise floor over using a cable with levels on the transmitter that are set halfway or more on the pot.
