I don't, per se. Do you mean resolution in terms of frequency range,
or amplitude range?
And I didn't in any way mean to start a bidding war in terms of "who's
toughed it out through the most." I think we've all gone with no
meals and no pay to do what we do. Please don't start that.
Thanks,
Joe

Hey guys,
So, I'm taking an important "test" this coming September. Let's say
this "test" will let me join a certain "group of individuals in the
same line of work as I am."
I'm feeling confident in my abilities to convey my knowledge of
recording sound for film. I have my mic patterns, set politics,
meanings of the word "plant," and whatnots all in order. Except for
one minor detail:
Let me start by saying this: I know what bitrates are. 48K vs. 44.1
and so on. I think of it as the horizontal resolution of the audio
signal when converted to digital. And I also know what bit depth is
(roughly), 16 bit vs. 24 bit. I consider that the vertical
resolution. I know that 24 bit audio stores more "information" than
16 bit.
Up until now, I've thought of bit depth dealing with amplitude, and
bitrate dealing with a frequency over a certain measure of time, be it
the actual frequency(s) or amplitude(s) of that given frequency within
that certain measure of time.
My question is this:
Does bit depth have anything to do with the frequencies being captured
by a digital recording, or is it simply the number of amplitudes that
can be recorded? Or do they go hand in hand? With a bitrate of 48k,
at 16bit, will less frequencies AND amplitudes be recorded? Or just
one or the other?
I might be over thinking this, as I am getting very paranoid about
taking this test. As you can imagine, much of my life in future years
is based on the outcome of this test. I would appreciate any help.
I mean Jesus Christ, why is it that I know what to do when someone
asks you to go without a meal for a day, but not what a damn bit depth
is...
Thanks guys,
Joe
I've done 3 days with out a meal; but anywhat:
Khz = Frequency
Bits = Resolurion
do you follow?
.
