Powering electret mics

I need to find a way to externally power two lavalier mics: a Sony
ECM-77 and a Countryman EMW.

As they are now, they were wired for Lectrosonics transmitters, and I
think the ECM-77 is using what they call "3-wire positive bias". Can't
recall what the Countryman used.

The problem is that I also want to power them with an AKG phantom to
electret XLR interface, which already works quite well with other mics
wired as "2-wire positive bias" (AKG, PSC).

Can someone tell me how can I achieve that? I can't quite understand
why an electret might need a third wire, as they are not balanced.
What does this third wire do?

I have no problem soldering parts or re-wiring, just need the right
info to make it work with this supply.
