Specifically, I'm trying to find out what problems (technical or
creative) most sound designers face in order to develop some tools
that might help.
Let me give you a rather simple example: often, when the original
sounds are too short, they have to be looped, which can result in
rather dull sound (even if the loop point itself is inaudible). In my
case it was the noise of a vacuum cleaner. One program I created tries
to solve this problem by adding minute fluctuations to the sound,
giving it a more natural feel. The user can control how strong those
fluctuations should be, as well as how fast they should occur.
I think, in terms of effects, a true near/far slider is still the
holy grail of plug-ins.
