Re: Mic level output on Zaxcom eng receiver

Billy the new tx with stereo module and recorder push to 3 grand
i dont see any problem work with rics link system in 90% of situation
right now .
i was more happy if the Ricks recievers could work with out sending data
back so you may use more then 1 reciever .
i also wish that the range will be more for stadycam shotes involved ( yes,
no double sytem :-)).
and fianaly Billy , you are not the target for that unit ,+-)

Actually, Andre said they worked very well, that's why he put up with
the flaws (that were extensively discussed years ago... they came out
in 2002). Replacing the transmitter would cost 1/2 of what the
Camlynx will cost and will provide much better range and recording
capability (with optional time code) and it would also be useable as a
full wirless system instead of being limited to camera link service.
Seems a viable option. I like the idea of the Camlynx, but from what
I'm reading it has a way to go before it is useable. I think a
minimum range of 75' in any conditions and hopefully not such a
drastic delay. The idea isn't to hear a beep when you lose signal.
It's not to lose signal in the first place. Limited range for a
camera link is ok, But from how Ric is describing it's current
capabilities I'd say it's not there yet. I have no doubts that he'll
improve it. But perhaps we'll have to wait for the Camlynx second
generation too.

I have two of the original gold lines. I still use them but you might
want to look at the new transmitters (which will work with your
existing receiver). The battery doors use magnetic latches so they're
both very secure and very easy to use. The display is a full LCD with
an led indicator on top, and they have recording capability, line
level balanced inputs and time code reception. Half the power
consumption too. I originally bought 2 Zaxcom sets when they first
came out but used them primarily for wireless boom (which I still
use). I didn't switch over my cart until the 2nd generation TRX900's
came out. I still use the original transmitters when I need an extra
rig so they were not a total loss, but the 2nd generation is FAR
superior in design (though as you said, the audio quality and
reliability are excellent).

I've owned a stereoline since the fall of 2004 and fully agree with
both of your posts. It's a horribly designed machine. Battery doors
on both Rx and Tx need to be taped down when no internal batteries are
present, otherwise , they flap open. I usually power both
externally. How hard can it be to design a battery door that locks
into place no matter what? Stupid design. A way-too-big Ext-Off-Int
switch on the Rx; a tape down must. And anybody who's had a Rx on a
camera knows about the curved antennae syndrome. Both Rx and Tx
antennas are way too stiff. Without batteries, the Rx is very light;
cameramen like it. But it sucks power - haven't had complaints on my
end. The Tx; Geez... the thing is designed to be in the bag so,
obviously, I'll be looking at the top of it when working. Yet, not a
single blinking light on the top to tell me it's alive. And its
screen... 21 LED's to display numbers and letters... Way too
complicated. Did Zaxcom look at how their competion transfers
information from their hardware to their users? My 411's Tx and Rx
tell me everything I need to know real fast. Ext/Int switch on the
Zaxcom Tx. Where's the Off position? Zaxcom clearly didn't have a
lot of user input in the design of the stereoline.
I've said a lot of bad things about their system but there are 2 good
things to say , 2 things that make my clients come back, 2 things that
help me pay my mortgage; the quality and reliability of the
transmission are simply outstanding. Better than my 411's.
Am I happy to own a Stereoline? Yes. Would I recommend it? No.
Because it's a wonderfully performing, stupidly designed system.

I had nothing but problems the 2 seperate times I used them. Power
hungry, heat, nosie, caused RFI with other wireless audio and video
systems. Washed my hands of them. Since you only get one chance to
impress production. I no longer let a vendor force the gear they
want
to go out because of some back alley deal with a suppiler.

But there are others who have had success by using adapters and
filters and padded cables and grounded connectors.- Hide quoted
