In David's defense about a few missing serial numbers, I'm afraid Trew
Audio is to blame. Due to an oversight on our part, it seems that
David's receipt for a recently purchased wireless system did not
contain its serial numbers (certainly not our normal practice for
serial numbered items). Our archived records do have the serial
numbers, which we will be getting for David immediately.
I am very impressed that David was able to pull the list together that
he did in such a short time. Because he's acted quickly, I have a
feeling he'll be getting much of it back, too, which means he may
actually win the bet he made with the insurance companies.

David, that's a real shame, and I'm truly sorry for your loss.
But there is something to be learned here, and maybe this is a sobering
wake-up call the others. The fact is, insurance is a necessity.
I have $70,000 in world-wide all risk insurance coverage for my gear
through a company called Music Pro Insurance, $100 deductible per
incident, part of the Fireman's Fund. Now, I've never had to make a
claim, so can't vouch for how easy it would be. But This coverage only
costs me about $600 a year. Do I hate paying it? Absolutely. But am I
prepared to lose $70,000 worth of gear? Much worse than paying the $600
a year (which is also a tax write-off, so it's not even $600).
No offense, but if you've been able to get together $100,000 in gear,
can you really not afford say $1000.00 a year? Maybe not, I'm certainly
not judging you. But business insurance is a part of doing business.
Was there an alarm on your van? Any other precautions you could have
taken you think might have prevented it?
To anyone out there without insurance, take the time to make up a
thorough list of serial numbers of every piece of gear you have. Get a
cheap digital camera and photograph each piece of gear. Keep it in a
safe place, so that in the event of your gear being stolen, you can get
those numbers out there.
Believe it or not, I CAN supply you with a list of EVERY serial number
of every microphone, recorder, etc, that I own. If it has a serial
number, I have it in an excel spread***, with the date I aquired it,
the model number, serial number, the price I paid for it, and if I
bought it used, the retail price of that item (for replacement
calculation) I also take a digital picture of every piece of gear I own
as well, and have scanned in the receipts.
Am I anal? Absolute. But it took me only about two days to go through
and make up a serial number list and photograph everything, if I had a
receipt still I scanned it into the computer as well, so that all my
'gear' documentation is in a safe place. And once that initial list is
done, adding gear is easy, when I buy something, type in the serial
number, scan the receipt and take a quick digital picture.
Again, sorry for your loss, and hoping somehow you can get your gear
back.

Here is a useless gear list, because I have not found any serial
numbers yet. Too blown away. Atlanta is a very tough market, hence no
insurance and working for low bucks and all that such entails...
Anyway, I really needed to vent. Here is a partial list of stuff I
used to own.
