Re: FCC-Zax radios

Actually David, I did speak about this problem in that so called
"contentious/myopic" thread.

Although it may seem that I want to just sell Zaxcom wireless as a
solution, I don't. Although I think they (thankfully) provide at least
the first nifty answer, I also sell a lot of Sennheiser, Lectrosonics,
Shure and most other brands of wireless, so I sincerely hope they come
up with cool solutions too.

More importantly to my personal business, I rent out hundreds of
wireless a day and I want to continue doing that without spending a half
million bucks on a whole new fleet of wireless inventory....far, far
from it!

That's why I've been so vocal within my peers to set off the alarm bells
hoping we would be able to effectively band together to save the
bandwidth. Unfortunately, we can't even begin to be as powerful a lobby
as Qualcom, AT&T, Nextel, Verizon and the many other businesses willing
to pay billions for broad spectrum. Unless we get them to blink or pony
up a billion dollars of our own to buy spectrum, we are simply out of
luck.

I have little faith that a Congress who will not provide equal tax
incentives to keep shows from leaving the country will suddenly care
about our industry. Which lobbyists will be giving them the largest
donations to their campaigns? Politicians always pretend to listen to
everyone, but in the end, they only act for their own political self
interests...staying in office. The general working public will never
exert that kind of pressure a AT&T lobbyist does because they don't
understand, or care, about this issue and never will. They won't ever
know a live wireless mic from a hardwired one, until they disappear.

To elaborate further. I went to the Motorola convention recently and
listened to a lot of handwringing there about the issue. I have
followed the issue long before it hit the public level we now see on
RAMPS. I have discussed it with all the major wireless manufacturers to
one degree or another and have attended the first and only meeting a
couple weeks ago with the AMPTP (Association of Motion Picture and
Television Producers). When I got there, I realized the sound union and
manufacturers wern't even invited, if you can imagine that.

I have been told that this FCC administration is not like any before.
They have a mandate to care only about controlling spectrum for moral
content, safety, security and money...in that order. Period.

We were told 800 Mhz has already been sold off with users given orders
to vacate and that all the spectrum being sold will be sold off so tight
that even the so-called junk "cloudy" area between footprints we would
hang out in is being sold off too. Secondary wireless users are going
to be squeezed hard to find any space in the big citys as 700 mhz will
be incredibly crowded by all of us suffering in limbo.

None of us are giving up the fight but it is quite evident that this is
an uphill battle that requires a miracle. I'm all for miracles that
save me money.
