Re: Wireless purchase

Zowie, I signed on a moment ago to ask almost the identical question.

I have been using the Sennheiser G2's and they've been fine for the
small jobs I've been doing. However, they are very susceptible to what
I'm guessing is cell phone interference (I'm not totally certain; all I
know is that the many short "phhttt" sounds decrease or go away
completely when I get everyone's phones turned off) and their range is
poor. Will ANY Lectro system deal with this problem better or only
some? For instance, would the UCR 100 Series System being offered on
eBay now truly be an upgrade for me? I'm still on a budget and would
probably try to get something used. I'm also in NYC.

best,

A.

Hi-

I am considering the purchase of used Lectrosonics to add to my kit. At
present, I have no wireless, although years ago I owned and was very
happy with a few Audio Limited 2000 series.

The units I am considering and which I found on the Web are 1)
Lectrosonics "UM200C & UCR211" and 2) Lectrosonics "UM250C Transmitter
HIGH POWER 250mw Receiver UCR205D".

While I know little about Lectros in general, they both are diversity
capable and the 211 has a scanning feature, which seems like it would
make life a bit easier. Any advice, impressions, watch-out-fors
appreciated as well as what folks think is a fair price for the above
systems is very much appreciated.

I am in New York City area, so I will research the Blocks for the above
units ( block 21 for the 211, block 28 for the 205)

First, I'd recommend you go to http://www.lectrosonics.com and do your
research. You can download the manuals for each of these transmitters
and receivers and compare features, power requirements, etc.

Sound-quality-wise all the units you mentioned are quite comparable.

As you compare the specs you'll find that the 205 does not give you an
indication of transmitter battery power and cannot be internally
powered. The newer model 211 can search for available channels and has
an LCD readout.

I'd get the 211 but if the 205 costs less and that's one of your
considerations, then only you can decide how much it's worth to have the
newer unit with more features.
