Re: RF antenna cables...revisited

Just "F" connectors that I've seen so far. The thing is, what Guy writes is
true. An experienced "crinper" (is that a word?) with the right connector
for the cable (and there are a bunch of specific combinations!) and the
right die set (and here too!) can build a pretty bomb-proof BNC cable. I
find it funny that the ones that always fall appart ("Can we borrow a cable
from you?") ar the ones from Panavision. Granted, they get the crap kicked
out of them, but the ends come off easy as well. A profit center for the
guys on DeSoto Avenue?

Crimps done right are superb BUT there are a lot of 'marginal' crimps out
there - done with the wrong die set or wrong BNC for the cable, or wrong
strip lengths.

I've done over 10,000 crimp BNCs (mostly on PSF1/3 double screened 75R
cable) in broadcast work, and rarely seen one 'done right' come loose.
Even on OBs and location kits... trying it just now on the bench it's
impossible to pull (by hand) the cable out of a correctly crimped BNC.

I have seen some amatuerish attempts at crimping done by folk and these
often fall off, pull off etc... but don't blame the crimp!!

Screw on BNCs are handy as an emergency fix/bodge on location but not
suitable for a long term connection.

Also avoid the cheap Chinese crap... ;-)

I was watching the guy install my new HD TV last week and he was using
a compression rig/connectors. Have these found their way to the BNC
world? They were very impressive for the "F" connectors.
