I've shot a lot of projects on DVX100's, and in my experience, you need
to be seeing 1-2 red bars all the time to get good levels. Depending
on how many tracks you're recording, another trick used all the time on
the DVX100 is to send your mic into input 2, set channel 1 and 2 to
input 2, and then set one level on the camera at noon, and set the
other down about 25%. This way if you do peak or blow out on one
channel, you still have clean audio on the other channel.
