And where is the charter for RAMPS that you reference? (curious, not

Here is the charter clipped from the email from David Barr Yaffe on
8/14/1997 when the RAMPS newsgroup was officially voted into existence 275
to 14
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHARTER: rec.arts.movies.production.sound

The newsgroup rec.arts.movies.production.sound is specifically for
the discussion of various technical issues relating to production
and post production sound recording for motion picture, television,
CD-ROM, and video production.

Areas that will be considered "on topic" should include practical
tips, the latest in digital audio technologies, different recording
formats used in the industry, different microphone techniques used,
keeping each other posted on who is working on which shows,
discussions on different international practices, employment
opportunities and equipment for sale and trade.

Topics that would be specifically excluded would be discussions
about union issues, unfair wage discussions and problem productions.
These should be discussed in forums and newsgroups that are directed
to such issues, such as IATSE discussion groups. Brief postings
advising of a sound union related discussion on another newsgroup
will be allowed.

Topics that will be considered as "off topic" will include "spam,"
"trolls," chain letters, get rich quick schemes, binaries, posts
with more than 5 cross posts to other groups, cross posted flames,
advertising that is corporate based or not relevant to the
entertainment industry. Ads specifically related to this discussion
group cannot be reposted more than once every 14 days.

1-900 ads and sex ads are also "off topic," regardless of their
"entertainment" value) None of the following will be allowed:
EMP excessive multiple-posting (known on the Net as "spam")
ECP excessive cross-posting (known on the Net as "velveeta")
spew re-posting old articles with new Message-IDs

MMF "make-money-fast" pyramid scams and/or chain letters

END CHARTER.

Thanks. Very interesting to see early history on the newsgroup. Anybody
see anything that would inhibit a manufacturer from discussing its products,
or a retailer from participating in discussions? I don't.
