Well, first thing to keep in mind is that the MicroTrack will NOT take
a true line level signal. They claim to be working on a fix, but I
have yet to see a firmware update that addresses this. So even in a
"line level" input mode, your signals need to be padded down by I'd
guess at least 10 to 15dB less than a pro line level.
Next thing to keep in mind is that most camcorders put out a TC signal
that is very hot as you mentioned - often I find that they're around
+10dB or higher. Your old beat up Shure A15 barrel will do the trick.
Between -15, -20 and -25dB, one of these settings is probably just
right:
