I have never heard of a Sennheisser Helical, you prob mean a flatpanel wideband Yagi also called a log-periodic...
Real helicals are round and are the best multipath killer there is, they have a wide bandwith above a defined cut off and we use them exclusively with out video transmitters and get excellent results.. you can see what you are doing,,, see...

In my experience, replacing all the crappy, whippy antenna that come as standard with the Evolution Tx and Rx is a good move. Use the Sennheiser helical ones and you will notice a huge difference in range and signal clarity. Not cheap but worth every penny.
I use the plug in as a sender for clean feed during lives and since I changed over to helicals, I haven't had a drop out.
Everyone else over here in frozen Scotland that uses these kits has done the same and are enjoying the hassle free signal.

William,
Are you using a PLUG ON transmitter, or a beltpack one? If you're using a PLUG ON brick transmitter, take care: do not use any handmic with plastic housing. The only good solution is to use mics where the house is made of some kind of metal, and the pin 1 of the XLR plug is also connected to the metal housing. The anntenna of the Senn Xmitter is connected to the pin 1 on the mic input XLR jack. So if you wanna use any mic w/plastic housing, the only thing you have to do is to connect an approx 20 cm long wire into pin1 of the input connector of the plug on transmitter before attaching the mic to the transmitter, and fix the wire beside the mic handle with some tape. That's all. I hope i couldhelp a little bit. --Zoltan
