I guess it is just semantic differences we are having here. With the
744T attached to your computer, via Firewire, if the files go directly
to "the computer's dvd burner" the files are still being copied to your
computer, right? Additionally, as per the original question about a
single track in a poly file, if you did copy the files directly "to the
burner" (to be specific here we are talking about a software routine
either built into the OS or a stand alone application like Toast), there
probably would be no way to split out just the one track needed.
My point was that these mirror, copy, burn, whatever routines, are not
yet built into the operation of the 744T, and any copying, burning of
files needs to be handled by a host computer from which it has received
copies of the files on the 744T. This is not the case with many (I
cannot vouch for all) of the other non-linear recorders in use today.
And again, this is not to denigrate the Sound Devices 744T --- it is a
beautiful machine that I own and use every day.
