Hello Douglas,
Pretty much ditto for me on everything that Jeff W. has noted regarding
his set up. Track 1 is always the mix track, the following tracks are
iso tracks as needed, starting with the booms.
I have been only sending in a Telecine mix on the DVD-RAM as of late.
The iso tracks are used later in the dialoge edit, so I have been
sending in a Firewire HD with all the isos for several days at a time.
This is a much faster transfer to workstation than DVD-RAM and it
provides a sort of archive system for the post house. They set up an
audio dump of sorts for all my tracks.
The only exception for me has been the back up. I've been trying to
dump the back up for some time now, and haven't been able to do it yet.
The post house, or post team has been burned in the past by something,
and I have to deal with the back up. To date, they've never used
it...that I know of. I currently use an FR-2, and burn a DVD-R from
the CF for each "roll".
On Entourage I armed everything, all the time...as it was an ad-lib
heavy show. We never knew when an actor was going to try for the last
word in a scene. They used the iso tracks quite often in rebuilding
tracks in high noise situations. We were amazed at how well it worked.
On Threshold, we did quite a bit less of iso tracking. It was a much
different show. We followed the arm when needed scenario.
On my current production, I'm using 2 booms on just about everything,
so I'm just doing a mix. I feel very lucky on this one. Cheers to the
sound teams that were here before me.
