Re: What/Who's Reality?

Eric,

First of all, theres nothing real about reality. The UPM/Producer
solution is if it moves or makes noise, put an RF on it on a seperate
track. Then they create reality and expect us as sound mixers to
capture every utterance.

The film/video business is one of the best industries in the world.
I've free lanced for 25 years and worked production as staff for
another 7. I frequently get calls to work shows where they need a
PD-6, five rfs and a boom for a 12 hour day, or a Cantar and 7 or 8 rfs
and a boom for a 12 hour day. The industry constantly changes. At
this stage (and age) of my life, I would rather work two easy days with
just a boom and a mixer to camera, than hump around a wheelbarrow of
equipment on my shoulders. There are plenty of young guys who do it
now but will be bitching in a year or two when they can't get out of
bed in the morning because their backs hurt so badly. So my message to
the young men and women, don't sell yourself too cheap. The producers
need people with skills. If you have honed your craft, don't sell it
just because you think no one will call you.

Protect yourself first.

Do go work.

The jobs will find you.
