The delay is quite long (a couple of seconds) bacause the signal has to
run through the pre-record buffer before being recorded and then being
read from disk.
In practise I never use it, but it does work ;-)
Interestingly this was one of the most requested features people where
argueing about on ramps. motto "as long as there is no real confidence
monitorring I´ll stick to my PD-4"
funny how fast things change. I heven´t heard that point in many
months and no one seems to care about monitorring from disk. Not even
the SD customers ;-)
correct me if I´m wrong
frank.
Frank,
Everyone still wants confidence playback with just a few (around a hundred)
miliseconds delay. However all the manufactures have told us that it is
impossible with disk recording. (especially those recording on optical
disk).
The SD 700 series confidence playback is typically delayed around 10 seconds
in monitor mode if just recording 2 tracks at 48K. 10 seconds is way too
long a delay to be useful. while recording or mixing.
