I received a very nice email from Mike Paul at Location Sound. He has done
extensive testing on both the Fostex DV-40 and the DV-824. Here are the
results of his tests. I have complete faith in the quality of his tests.
_DV40
_Now plays DVD-R and DVD+R discs created in ISO9660
Now plays _all_ track counts up to 8 (no audio output for tr 7&8)
Does not play files larger than 8 tracks.
_DV824
_As above, but with audio output for all tracks up to 8
Auto File Save every minute during record
Auto new file creation at 2 Gig mark (user selectable)
Multiple machine control (99 DV824's can be linked, with transport and
metadata control from a single master)
I have successfully tested discs from the following machines
Aaton Cantar (DVD-RAM, DVD-R, CD-R)
Deva IV (DVD-RAM poly "f" mode)
Metacorder (DVD-R - Single and dual poly files)
Sound Devices 744t (Computer burned CD-R and DVD-R - poly)
HHB Portadrive (DVD-RAM)
Nagra V (Computer burned DVD-R, CD-R)
For discs recorded with mono BWF's - the following should be known:
The DV40 and DV824 can play individual components (files) of a BWF-M
multitrack recording, but cannot re-compile them to play at the same
time. When the DV40 and DV824 see multiple files with the same timecode
in List Play mode, they will always grab the first file of the group in
the order they were written to the disc. The maximum track count for
BWF-M is 14. If there are 15 files in a BWF-M group, the DV40 and DV824
will not recognize any of them.
Hope this helps.
